My husband and I had a very pleasant experience here and will definitely be back! We had the Brussels sprouts (amazing!), the flat iron steak and the crispy chicken- very impressed with all the flavors! The portions do run on the smaller side but they absolutely nail the sauces, and the presentation. The ambiance is very pleasant as well. We did also order the carrot cake and I will say- we were both disappointed. The entrees were SO good we thought the dessert would be the cherry on top, but unfortunately it wasn’t. The frosting was not sweet and tasted like simply cream cheese, and the pistachio cream on the bottom didn’t complement the cake as well as I had hoped. Not a biggie, but maybe it’s something that can be tweaked :)
Upscale, yet a great value. Lunch with family was a real treat. Sweet potato curry soup, lox plate and duck confeit grilled cheese were unique crafted and well executed. Delicious.
Black Mountain has surprisingly many good restaurants for such a small town but Pure and Proper is the best for quality, value, atmosphere, and service! My wife and I don’t drink, but the cocktail menu is extensive; the appetizers were delicious as were the entree’s. I never like being charged for bread but their bread was amazing and I’d happily pay again! We shared the chocolate torte for dessert which was also incredible! We look forward to going back and trying different entrees and selections but everything was fantastic - HIGHLY recommend and FIVE STARS!
Excellent food and service! We had their curry soup, duck confit grilled cheese and bibimbap bowl. Everything was thoughtfully put together and delicious! Perfect experience
This is the cutest lil place. Multiple seating areas with different ambiances. Absolutely delicious food. The drinks were worth the money. If you get seated outside they have blankets for you and heaters. Very nice place for a variety of reasons whether it's just coffee and dessert or a romantic 3 course meal. Definitely make a reservation...it's very busy. We got the steak frites, crab cake, and pork belly dish. The desert could be good enough for 2 but if you love chocolate, you will want it for yourself .
Lovely eatery! The staff are fantastic and the restaurant is beautiful. The cold fashioned mocktail will blow your mind. No vegan options on the menu as of writing this, but they accommodated me and made a delicious vegan dish! Definitely recommend making a reservation online even if you're just going for drinks.
We love to eat, cook and enjoy fine dining and have so many favorite AVL restaurants, but Pure and Proper is one of the best, if not the finest dining experience in all of Western NC. The Pure and Proper owners and staff are exceptional! We dine here EVERY time we’re in the area. Call ahead and make reservations though, Black Mountain is alive and well!
This was the best meal of my life. Everyone was so nice and helpful with the menu. We started with drinks and i got a delicious mojito. My husband and i shared a refreshing arugula salad, corn and potato chowder, and chicken and dumplings. We also got the flat iron steak that was to die for. For dessert we shared the chocolate torte that was amazing. 10/10 will definitely be going back!
